Heritage Christian Academy
“The New Life Academy Eagles defeated the Heritage Christian Academy Eagles, 3-2, in an important conference battle at the Bielenberg fields in Woodbury. Both teams played well and with great passion. In the end, the ball skills and possession advantage of New Life prevailed over the counter-striking speed of Heritage.
Playing their third game in four days, one might have expected New Life to start out tired and leg weary. To the contrary, the home team came out with energy and dominated possession during the first 20 minutes of the contest before the play started to even out. New Life struck first with senior Captain Chris Kesting converting a perfect pass in the box from freshman mid-fielder Charlie Tourek for a 1-0 lead at the 30 minute mark.
Then Heritage’s speed caught the New Life defense pressing forward and unable to close before a score on a point blank shot. Despite generating most of the quality scoring chances, New Life went into the intermission tied with the visitors at 1 all.
The New Life Eagles started the second half as they did the first, controlling the midfield and possession but for another momentary lapse of defense on a through ball which yielded a score and a 2-1 lead. At the 20 minute mark of the second stanza, the home team drew even when senior Cole Sheridan was fouled in the box, and Kesting converted the penalty kick. With the score tied at 2, New Life continued to dominate play and 5 minutes later took the lead on Kesting’s third goal of the game.
The home squad continued to dominate possession with skill and purpose as the visitors played with ever-increasing desperation. The contest became very physical over the last 15 minutes. New Life didn’t back off. It was a quality victory over a good team. Kesting’s hat trick was a fitting reward for the Eagle’s pluck and mid-field dominance.”
