“The New Life Academy Eagles soundly defeated the Concordia Academy Beacons, 3-0, to win their Homecoming contest on a spectacularly beautiful Indian summer afternoon. There was a steady wind from the south which favored the Beacons in the first half. Nevertheless, the Eagles dominated play with a significant possession advantage. They generated many quality scoring chances but could not finish. The Beacons’ goalkeeper made a few excellent saves and many of the Eagles’ shots sailed just wide or high. At half, the score was tied at nil.
The second half started much as the first had ended with the Eagles generating scoring chances to no avail. At the 15 minute mark, freshman mid-fielder Charlie Tourek, assisted by senior Luke Berger, struck a hard, curling, upper 90 shot from 5 yards outside the box past the Beacons’ keeper to break the scoring drought. At the 30 minute mark, freshman Isaac Bryant put Captain Chris Kesting’s ricocheting shot off the post into the back of the net for a 2-0 advantage. 5 minutes later, senior Cole Sheridan, assisted by Kesting, made it 3-0.
Senior goalkeeper Jacob Montgomery and freshman keeper Zack Thor combined for a shut out. The Eagles played convincingly, generating a significant advantage in possession and shots on goal over their opponents
